- Anotaciones
- The RT-176A transceiver is the main component of PRC-10 radio-equipment. Only in literature we can find the name PRC-10A, but on the rig itself the -A suffix is never present.
Frequency range is 38-55 MHz, FM (F3), transmitting power 0,9 W.
VFO-tuning, and a crystal calibrator stage giving 4,3 MHz checkpoints. In the receiver-part we find 2 RF-stages, 4 IF-stages, a discriminator FM-detector with 2 germanium diodes, a squelch circuit and a pulse sweep generator to control the transmit frequency.
At the top we find all controls, and connectors for the the headset and 3 antennas: long whip AT-271, short whip AT-272, and a ca. 50 ohm BNC-connector.
This radio set was designed for field use with a 3,65 kg multi-voltage battery BA-279, or for vehicular use with 24 volts PSU+audio amplifier AM-598. All tubes, exept the noval 5A6, are of Special Quality subminiature B5A type, originally from Raytheon. The factory aligned complete IF-circuits, including the mini-tubes, are housed in sealed metal cans with B7G-pins, as well as the discriminator-circuit and the pulse sweep generator.
Similar, with different frequency-ranges are RT-174A / PRC-8 20-28 MHz, and RT-175A / PRC-9 27-39 MHz.
A variant with different circuitry and 16 tubes, but a look-alike, is the RT-176/PRC-10.
