  • Annotazioni
  • These are U.S. military Seismic Intrusion Detectors (SIDs) with built-in battery powered VHF Radio Transmitters. When stepped on or disturbed, the SID would send a VHF RF signal to hidden radio receivers within their communication range (typically within 1,000 to 1,500 feet), for alarm, analysis, and/or relay (e.g. re-transmission). These SIDs were were used to detect enemy troop movement in jungle environments. Thus they were camouflaged to look like items found naturally in the jungle (e.g. twigs, rocks, etc. covered in moss or mud). However, they were often called “Turd SIDs”, “Dog-Doo Transmitters”, or “Monkey Turds” by the soldiers because of their shape and color.
