Switchbox BC-345 was part of the US Army Signal Corp RC-32 Filter Equipment.
The RC-32 filter set was connected in series between the aircraft receiver/transceiver and the pilot/copilot and consisted of the: FL-5-A or FL-5-E (Filter Unit), BD-345 (Switchbox), and CD-316 (Cord). There were two RC-32 sets installed on each aircraft, one for the pilot and one for the copilot. The RC-32 was used in many US military aircraft. Refer to Literature(1) for more details on which aircraft used this equipment during WW2.
The pilot/copilot connected their headset (HS-23) to the PHONES jack and selected the desired option with the three-position rotary switch.
The options were:
1. RANGE (Range signal pass, Voice signal reject)
2. VOICE (Voice signal pass, Range signal reject)
3. BOTH (Voice signal pass, Range signal pass)The RANGE signal was a 1020Hz modulated directional radio beacon received by aircraft to assist aircraft to or from a landing field.
