Mullard H.T. Supply Unit for A.C. mains with full wave rectification from a Philips 506 Full-Wave rectifying valve, providing four different H.T. supplies to replace the H.T. battery in battery-powered receivers.
Advertisement in Wireless World magazine, September 28th 1927: "P.M. H.T. Supply Unit. – For use with an A.C. supply and provided with full-wave rectification, the P.M. H.T. supply unit is very similar to that formerly marketed by the Philips Company, and therefore carries the reputation of being thoroughly reliable. A modification is the provision of four H.T. tapping points effected by potential dividing across a resistance. The top of the instrument is a clean moulding, there are no parts of the circuit exposed from which shocks might be obtained, and the containing box is of metal supported on rubber feet. The price of the complete unit is £7 10s. A maximum potential of 180 volts is obtained on a load of 10 miiliamperes, a reduction of about 2.5 volts occurring for an increase of 1 milliampere load up to the permissible load of 40 mA."
Directions: A warning at the bottom of the Directions plate attached to the unit advises the user not to switch on the A.C. supply before making the connections to the receiver. It is likely that with the power supply unloaded the H.T. outputs could rise to a level which might damage the receiver.
