A 19th-Century Nairne-pattern Electrostatic Machine.
Travelling medical-type glass cylinder supported by two fittings to the case, the cylindrical metal comb containing a foil-covered Leyden jar with wooden cover and surrounding glass tube , the plush-covered friction-cushion with two spherical brass terminals to the rear, both mounted on glass insulating rods, the cylinder belt-driven by a removable handle, the whole contained within a wooden travelling case with removable side panels and curved lid -- 19¾ in. (50cm) wide.
