• The Philco 643 series is based on a 7-tube battery-powered 4-band chassis (150-390 kHz, BC, 1.75-5.8 MHz, and 5.8-18 MHz). The standard 643 chassis uses a 2 volt A supply; the 643A chassis uses a dry A battery (presumably 3 V) and a type 1C1 ballast tube in series with the A supply to lower the tube filament voltage to 2 V.
  
  There are three models with different cabinet styles: The early version (1935) of model 643B is a shouldered tombstone; the late version (1936) of 643B is simpler tombstone design with a slightly trapezoidal shape. Model 643X (1935-36) is a floor-type console.
