Philips model 172A is an improvement of model 938A and includes an additional E462 tube that serves as RF and also lessens the radiation from regenerative radio. The addition of the E462 tube is a result of the most recent PTT Dutch East Indies restrictions in 1933/1934, which forbade the use of radios that might interfere with the reception of other radios.
The radio has a schematic that is identical to the 938A, but adds the E462 and modifies the antenna input.
Note: Model 172A is an improvement of model 938A, but it is not yet certain, whether the 172A was achieved by modification of a 938A chassis (as shown in the uploaded pictures) or by building a completely new chassis.
