Philips Model 199A Push-button All Transistor Portable,
Thrilling power and penny-wise economy from seven transistor and two diodes. Three push-button controls with hi-low tone selector buttons. Long range noise-free reception from high-gain "Ferroceptor" rod aerial. Slim, compact, lightweight (less than 5 lb. complete with battery), sand and dust-proof. Genuine leather case in three springtime colours: luggage tan, atmosphere grey, spring-fever red, moth beige & bone.
- Speaker Rola Type 4C with F44 cone.
- Battery Eveready Type 276P or equivalent.
- Price includes battery.
- Weight is without batteries.
This radio is identical in external appearance to the Model 199 but differs in using later transistors. The first 5 transistors are mounted in rubber grommets through holes punched in the metal chassis. To accommodate the larger OC169/OC170 transistors the chassis hole is larger as is the rubber grommet and there is provision for the extra lead to earth their cases. There are some differences in component values around the oscillator coil, at least.
The 199C differs from the 199A in the Tuning Capacitor and there are ensuing changes to the tuning scale and dial.

The Parts list (2 pages uploaded under "Schematics") lists the changes between the 199A and 199C as the tuning gang, Dial Cursor and retaining spring, and the Dial Scale.
No references are apparent to the 199A other than in this pamphlet.
The 199C Tuning Gang appears to gave a different curvature to the earlier model, compressing the scale below 1000 kHz and expanding the upper end of the scale.
The schematic and parts lists uploaded, list no electrical differences between the 199A and the 199C but the 199 used the OC45 and OC44 transistors.
