• Philips had experience with image display via a projection tube placed in a Schmidt optic. For display of the color television image, projection was used by three projection display tubes with a red, a green and a blue-luminous phosphor respectively. To get the three ground color images together, use was made of color splitting mirrors.
  In addition, Philips developed its own color television standard. It involved the two Sub-Carrier (TSC) transmission system developed by Ir. K.Teer and ir. J. Haantjes in the Natlab. On April 10, 1956, Philips realized his first experimental color television broadcast. For this purpose, the International Advisory Council CCIR (Committee of International Radiation Communications) was invited.

  Subsequently, the two transmission systems were used. First, the TSC system and secondly the NTSC system adapted for 625 lines. The demonstration took place with a number of recipients from a trial series of which 10 worked according to the NTSC system and 10 according to the Philips TSC system. This first series of color receivers got as generation number K1.
