Hello, friends,

I have acquired an Allegro 890A and am waiting for shipment. I have several questions about this interesting Monoknopf Philips:

On the schaltbild, there seems to be a rectifier tube (gleichrichter-roehre) at the input side of the audio output transformer. What putpose does this tube serve? I have been around radios a long time, and have been a ham radio operator for 45 years, and I have never seen this arrangement before!

Also, I want to begin gathering a set of spare roehren. Perhaps the most difficult to find will be the AM1 magisches auge. Is there anyone on RMorg who can help me locate one of these in good condition, with usable brightness?

Also, I would like to find several ABC1, AK2 and AF3 and 1561(RGN2004).

If anyone who has this radio can offer me any recommendations as to restoration, I would greatly appreciate it. I have plenty of spare capacitors for the power-supply and interstage bypass requirements.

Unter "Technische Unterlagen" sind 4 deutschsprachige Seiten der originalen Philips Serviceanleitung zu finden. Die Funktion der fühlbaren, mechanischen Scharfabstimmung ist gut verständlich beschrieben (siehe besonders "Philips_890a_serv_a3.png"). Gerade diese Funktion macht den 890A zu etwas besonderem und erschließt sich aus dem Schaltplan nicht ohne weiteres. Die Bauteilbezeichnungen entsprechen dem holländischen Originalschaltplan (zu finden hier:  model_id=29579). Die Röhrenbezeichnung "L3" entspricht der "B3" des holländischen Originals. Die Unterschiede im Röhrentyp (ABC1 vs. EBC3) sind für das Verständnis der Schaltung unwesentlich.

Der 890A wurde ursprünglich in Holland für die E-Röhren der roten Serie entwickelt (siehe auch 890A unter Philips Holland). Ein tschechischer Sammlerkollege meinte, der in der CSR hergestellte 890A wäre nur deshalb mit A-Röhren ausgestattet worden, um ihn auch nach Deutschland exportieren zu können, da dort die "nichtdeutschen" roten Röhren nicht hätten verkauft werden dürfen. Daher rühre auch der provisorisch anmutende Aufkleber mit der Röhrenbestückung im Gehäuseinneren. Ist das Verkaufsverbot der roten Röhren im betreffenden Herstellungszeitraum (1937/38) in Deutschland korrekt? Oder waren diese nur "verpönt" (trotz sehr guter technischer Daten...)? Oder war es schlicht die Marktmacht von Telefunken?
