  • Notes
  • The Photon PT5343-13-3-ST SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) STM-1 (Synchronous Transport Module Level 1) Laser Transmitter is intended for intra-office and intermediate-reach applications with a data rate between 5 and 300 Mb/s. (Typically 155 Mb/s). The module incorporates an InGaAsP low-threshold MQW hermetic-package uncooled Fabry-Perot laser with an operating wavelength of 1280 - 1330 nm (typically 1310 nm) and a spectral width at -20 dBm of less than 4 nm. It is ITU-T G.957 compliant except that the '13' in the Part No. indicates a higher launched power in the range 0 to +3 dBm.

The laser diode has temperature-compensated bias and modulation current control and the output of a rear facet monitor is used to maintain constant optical output level against temperature changes and device aging. Monitoring of the laser bias current and rear facet light output is possible for test purposes. Extinction ratio typically exceeds 13 dB. A normally-enabled transmitter disable function is provided. The maximum supply voltage is 5.5 V and the module can be operated with Vcc at 0 V for differential ECL input levels, or with Vee at 0 V for PECL levels. The supply current is typically 50 mA.

The transmitter is housed in an industry-standard 20-pin DIP metal package with a 120 cm singlemode fibre pigtail terminated with an ST connector. Alternatively, it can be supplied with FC or SC connectors. It can be mounted directly on a pcb if any conducting traces under the metal case are protected. When housing the module in a 20-pin IC socket, a metal jig can be used to trim the leads accurately before mounting it, and mylar film insulating material can be used if required to ensure that the case does not touch the exposed parts of the socket contacts.
