- Notes
-
Wavebands in Metres (approximately) are
- Long 2000 to 800
- Medium 550 to 180
- MSW 100 to 36
- SW 32 to 25
- SW 20 to 16
The DM70 and DAF96 are in parallel at the chassis end of the 9V series filament LT chain.
The PE94MBQ is similar but exchanges LW for an extra SW band as is common on "Export" models.
Both models can use external aerial connection for all bands as well as Telescopic aerial for SW and Loop Frame aerial (Ferrite Rod later modes) for MW & LW (MW only on PE94MBQ but extra SW band replaces LW).
Another feature unusual for UK battery Valve portables is the tuned RF preamp (DF91). Probably 50mA types are used rather than 25mA types as the DK96 is not suitable for reliable operation on 16m & 19m bands. The DL94 in theory is nearly twice the audio power of DL96 or DL92, but this was unlikely the main consideration for the 50mA types. The DAF96 filament is used in parallel with DM70 for the 50mA series chain.
There may be no P94MBQ/LW as the "E" is sometimes omitted in service sheets.
Battery is balanced 90V & 7.5/9V combo pack with type "W" connector. Equivalents to
- Burgess F6A60
- Ever Ready B135
- RCA VS019
- Pertrix 85
- Eveready (National Carbon) 753
- Rayovac AB994
Battery adds about 1.5 kg to the 8 kg of the Radio alone, so original operational wieght between 9 kg and 10 kg.
Telescopic aerial length extended is about 1.5m from tip to botton of tube inside the radio case.
