  • Bemerkung
  • Radio Craftsmen model 500 is an AC operated audio amplifier.
The Radio Craftsmen model 500 (number plate only 500 !) is an AC operated audio amplifier for custom installations with one (mono) input (470 k). For optimum operation, the output tubes KT66 should be a matched pair. The line transformer has 3 positions for line voltage.

Model 500 is the first model of this line which includes 500, 500A, C550 and C550A. Other names like C500, RC500, C500A, RC500A or RC550A are wrong - but we have to list since so many persons look up under these wrong names. SAMS Photofact is distinguishing between model 500 and model 500A - but Radio Craftsmen made on both a number plate with only "500" as model name. Distinctive is the parts line-up on the plate. Therefore have a closed look to our SAMS reference picture when deciding which model it is.

SAMS Photofact shows models 500 and 500A. As we show in the pictures there are offered as C500 by oaisie at eBay but the name plate shows clearly 500 only.

hello,

I believe there is a mistake in the schematic in regards of the C2 capacitor in the power supply.

In my craftsmen 500, the values for C2 are 2x 40µF 500V and 2x8µF 500V. And not 50,

And not 500MFD as shown in the schematic. You can also compare this with the 500A schematic, which uses also 2x 40µF 500V and 2x8µF  500V.

Because I want to replace C2 due to failure, and such a type I can not find,

I take 2x 50µF 500V   in one housing and 2 single axial 10µF  450V.

Best regards  Armin Ohrem
