  • Notes
  • John F.Rider designed this all purpose instrument for systematic diagnosis in radio repair. It has 5 indicators: besides a DC voltmeter it uses four magic eyes for the "channels" RF/IF, AF, Watts, and Oscillator. Two separate tunable sections for RF/IF and Oscillator tests. The RF/IF channel covers 3 bands: 95 - 260 kc; 240 - 630 kc; 600 - 1700 kc.
You can find a Chanalyst model comparison here. The Oscillator channel has a tuned amplifier covering 3 bands: 600 - 1700 kc; 1650 - 4950 kc; 4800 - 15000 kc. Coverage of Oscillator operation extends up to 70 megacycles. The name is combined from "channel" and "analyst" = "Chanalyst". The tube complement is somewhat different from the initial publication, where 4 x 6K7 were foreseen. They remained in the RF/IF section, while the other two 6K7 were replaced by an 1852 and a 6SK7 respectively.

The RCA-Rider Model 162C moved the AC outlet and the two output jacks from the rear of the cabinet, as had been the standard design from Rider's first model to the RCA-Rider 162, to the front panel, thus no longer requiring access to the rear of the cabinet when in use.  That also required moving the voltmeter "zero" adjust control to the top.  The On-Off switch was also changed to add a third function for "Standby" which cut B+ to the eye tubes to limit wear on the phosphors.
