Realtone Voyager Nine Transistor TR-970 has the following features:
- LW: 130 - 400 kHz ("MARINE BAND")
- MW: 540 - 1600 kHz ("STANDARD BAND") with markings for Civil Defense
- SW: 4 - 12 MHz ("SHORT WAVE")
- Separate ferrite rod antennas for MW/SW and LW
- 15mA @ 6VDC (No Signal), 20mA @ 6VDC (Normal Signal)
- tone control, removable telescoping antenna stored in pouch on leather case, metal carrying handle, brown leather carrying case known
Note that although this radio has what we assume is a 9V battery connector, it is not designed for 9 volts. That connector mates to a 2x2 AA battery holder (6VDC) that has a mating 9V connector.
Identical to Lincoln TR-970 in design.

Hello,
I've been troubleshooting a Realtone TR-970 and the MW oscillator is dead.
Fortunately, I have the excellent schematic and parts list.
The oscillator transistor tests as damage -- it's a 2SA153 PNP , according to the parts list, which matches the spec printed on the transistor.
According to the Radio Museum website this is a germanium diffused high-frequency transistor.
Question: Can I replace this PNP with a silicon 2N3906 PNP transistor intended for general purpose low-power amplifying, or do I need a replacement more specifically matched?
Thanks ...
