  • Notes
  • RD Junior Deluxe

In 1950, Rogers introduced the RD Junior Deluxe, an improved version of their popular RD Junior amplifier.
This new model incorporated several significant upgrades:

    • Improved tone control circuit, similar to that used in the Williamson pre-amplifier
    • Increased negative feedback
    • Low noise audio input stage using a Mullard EF40 tube
    • Enhanced overall performance

    Key Specifications:

    • Power Output: 10 watts
    • Frequency Response: ±0.2 dB from 20-20,000 Hz, -1.3 dB at 30,000 Hz
    • Distortion:
      • At 8 watts: Not exceeding 0.5% total harmonics at 100 and 1,000 Hz
      • At 10 watts: 1% second and third harmonics at 100 and 1,000 Hz
    • Sensitivity:
      • Radio input: 2V RMS for 10 watts output
      • Pickup input: 170 mV RMS for 10 watts output (at 1,000 Hz)
    • Hum and Noise: Better than -65 dB in gram position (maximum gain, maximum bass boost, open grid circuit)
    • Tone Controls: Variable slope type, ±18 dB range at 20 and 20,000 Hz, crossover at 1,000 Hz
    • Pickup Compensation: 6 dB per octave from 250 Hz to 20 Hz
    • Negative Feedback: 20 dB

The RD Junior Deluxe featured exceptionally low phase shift, ensuring unconditional stability under normal conditions.

It was available completely wired and tested in chassis form for £22 10s 0d. This upgraded model represented a significant improvement over the original RD Junior, offering enhanced sound quality and performance that Rogers claimed was unmatched in its price class.
