RD Junior Deluxe
In 1950, Rogers introduced the RD Junior Deluxe, an improved version of their popular RD Junior amplifier.
This new model incorporated several significant upgrades:- Improved tone control circuit, similar to that used in the Williamson pre-amplifier
- Increased negative feedback
- Low noise audio input stage using a Mullard EF40 tube
- Enhanced overall performance

- Frequency Response: ±0.2 dB from 20-20,000 Hz, -1.3 dB at 30,000 Hz
- Distortion:
- At 8 watts: Not exceeding 0.5% total harmonics at 100 and 1,000 Hz
- At 10 watts: 1% second and third harmonics at 100 and 1,000 Hz
- Sensitivity:
- Radio input: 2V RMS for 10 watts output
- Pickup input: 170 mV RMS for 10 watts output (at 1,000 Hz)
- Hum and Noise: Better than -65 dB in gram position (maximum gain, maximum bass boost, open grid circuit)
- Tone Controls: Variable slope type, ±18 dB range at 20 and 20,000 Hz, crossover at 1,000 Hz
- Pickup Compensation: 6 dB per octave from 250 Hz to 20 Hz
- Negative Feedback: 20 dB
The RD Junior Deluxe featured exceptionally low phase shift, ensuring unconditional stability under normal conditions.
It was available completely wired and tested in chassis form for £22 10s 0d. This upgraded model represented a significant improvement over the original RD Junior, offering enhanced sound quality and performance that Rogers claimed was unmatched in its price class.
