  • The SABA 300 Automatic 9T and 300 Automatic 9C are typical export models. C stands tor "console" and T for "table" model. The Automatic 300 9 has the same chassis as the Meersburg-Automatic 9 and is an AC operated 9 tube FM-BC-SW-LW receiver. One might think the models have 4 speakers - but you see on the photo for the inside that it is three speakers whith soundcompressor. Longwave is from 140 to 360 kc, Short wave from 5.9 to 18.9 mc, Broadcast from 510 to 1640 mc and FM from 88 to 108 mc.

Both cabinets are the same but the dial glass is different, also the FM wave band etc. SAMS Photofact set #471, Folder 14 Date 1-60 is provided by member Dale Steel. The Importer was A. E. Dufenhorst Co., 121 N. Third Street, Rockford, Illinois..

Respected Members,
Recently I have acquired two Saba radios: Continental 410US and 300 automatic 9T.  Two export models that correspond respectively to the Freiburg Vollautomatic 14 and Meersburg Automatic 9.  These models were designed to work with 60 Herz power supply.  The original documentation for the two radios suggests hardly to carry out an "Adaptation for line frequency" changing the two motor capacitors from 0.22 mf to 0.3 mf if the model is going to utilize with 50 Herz power.
I live in Chile where the power transmission systems is 220 volts, 50 Hz. and the two radios have a perfect and precise behavior in their motor tuning system without to have changed the motor capacitors.  My question to the forum is: Which is the technical argument that justifies this change if the motor tuning behaves of equal form with 60 or 50 Herz power supply?
Respectfully,
Bruno Gandolfo.
