Shepco 1-Tube "All Purpose" radio, manufactured in 1923 by Shepard-Potter Co. of Plattsburgh, New York. The predecessor to Thermiodyne, Shepard Potter was the brainchild of Leo Potter, and his little Shepco radio was distinguished by two pretty neat features. The first was its patented "flat bank wound coupler," which was capable of tuning from 150 to 3000 meters. The second was its unique panel, to which were wired, via binding posts rather than soldered connections, all of the radio's individual components. In this manner, the Shepco "All Purpose" radio was truly all-purpose. It could be used either as an entire radio or -- if wired into an external circuit -- either a tuner or a detector. The Shepco radio is pictured on page 166 of volume three of Douglas's Radio Manufacturers of the 1920's and, as early regens go, it is one of the more difficult sets to locate and tfore quite collectible.
