The Stereo FM Tuner Unit is part of the Sinclair Project 60 range launched in 1970.
According to company advertisements, it was the first commercial radio in the world to use the “phase lock loop” principle.
hey stated before the production of this tuner, the phase lock loop principle was used for receiving signals from space craft because of its vastly improved signal to noise ratio over other systems. Now, for the first time, the principle has been applied to an FM tuner with fantastically good results. Other original features include varicap diode tuning, printed circuit coils, an I.C. in the specially designed stereo decoder, and a squelch circuit for silent tuning between stations. Sensitivity is such that good reception becomes possible in difficult areas. Foreign stations can be tuned in suitable conditions and often a few inches of wire are enough for an aerial. In terms of high fidelity, this tuner has a lower level of distortion than any other tuner we know. Stereo broadcasts are received automatically as the tuning control is rotated, a panel indicator lighting up as the stereo signal is tuned in. This tuner can also be used to advantage with any other high-fidelity system.SPECIFICATIONS:
