- Bemerkung
- The Sony models ICR-90 and ICR-120 with 3 transistors and 1 IC are identical - except for the model name. The weight is 0.08 kg. The Earphone for it is model ME-25. The ICR-90 is the domestic model for the Japanese market, while the ICR-120 is the export model. There is one small difference in the packaging/accessories, though: being the domestic market model, the ICR-90 was shipped with the BC-90 Battery Charger, which is rated at AC 100 V 50/60 Hz input. As the export model, the ICR-120 shipped with one of two variations of the BC-120 Battery Charger. Those are the BC120W, which is rated at 117V AC 60Hz input, (primarily for the North American market), and the BC-120E, which is rated at 220V AC 50/60 Hz input. The two models ICR-90 and ICR-120 were released at the same time.
The ICR-100 was the first Sony radio with an integrated circuit and that predated the ICR-90/120 by about three years. November 1969 is given in a number of original Sony documents and in an internal "dictionary" for Sony employees.

I just sold a Sony ICR-90 after replacing a battery and one capacitor on the pc board. Also having several SOny ICR-120s on hand, I noticed the circuits appear identical. In fact, besides the "ICR-90" stamped on the back cover, all parts of the radio are interchangeable.
Early Sony advertising suggests the ICR-90 as being the world's smallest radio with a loudspeaker in 1968. The original owners manual is largely in Japanese.
It may be that the ICR-90 was first sold in Japan; when it became successful, it was marketed to the rest of the world as the ICR-120 in 1969. If anyone can confirm this, or add further information, it would be appreciated.
