Sony Scoopman NT-1 is the first digital stereo microcassette voice recorder.
The recording and playback sytem is similar to that of video tape recorders, using helical scanning. The head does not precisely follow the tracks but performs more than one pass per track, storing data in memory and reconstructing the audio information after several passes.
The Scoopman NT-1 uses special "stamp-sized" micro cassettes (NT-C) with 60, 90 and 120 min. recording time. In 1994 they were the world’s smallest tapes for digital recording, affording them an entry in the "Guinness book 2".
Audio is recorded with a quality close to that of the CD: 32 kHz sampling, 12 bit non-linear quantization, corresponding to a 17 bit linear quantization. A digital AGC adjusts the recording level automatically or manually.
Input for external microphone, output for headphones.
Line-In and Line-Out are available using the provided NTU-2 adapter.NT-1 has a clock with auto calendar function up to the year 2099. Time stamps are recorded on tracks.
