  • Annotazioni
  • Member John Kusching, USA wrote to me the following:
"I reviewed all of the Sparton material that I have and I cannot find the exact model.  Many of the Sparton datasheets have pictures of the chassis and the chassis pictures of the 540LX and 540SX (from the datasheets) match exactly to the pictures of Pini's radio (except for the tuning eye).  I have attached the first page of the 540SX datasheet that shows the chassis picture.  Thus Pini's radio is some derivative of the 540LX/540-SX family, with the addition of the tuning eye tube and power transformer difference.  This tells me that his radio was made in the 1939 timeframe +/- 1 year.

The 540LX bands are LW, BC and SW, while the 540SX bands are BC and 2 SW bands.  These 2 sets of bands do not quite lineup with the bands shown in Pini's dial.

The datasheets for the 540LX and 5430SX are only 2 pages, so I scanned them and uploaded them to the Radio Museum model pages.

I also have a large Sparton manual for the Canadian versions of the Sparton radio's and could not find a match.  Sorry that I could not be more helpful in identifying this model."
