Powered from a 6V accumulator.
The wavelength could be set from 100 to 335 metres.
1331 were produced and 113 were made by Sterling at a cost of 46 pounds 13 shillings. The remainder built by the War Department Factories at only 9 pounds 9 shillings.

Improvements to this transmitter became 1 to 4 and 3459 were produced.
The difference between the Sterling 52 and later models was the fitting of a second coupling clip to the helix inductance.
A long range version was also produced, the Sterling 52A transmitter which had a 120 watt input and was powered from 24 Volts.
