  • Notes
  • A silicon rectifier powers the radio. Fixed tuned FM radio with a built in crystal, which is one third the LO frequency.

The LO frequency is extracted with an LC tuned circuit at the plate of the LO oscillator triode in the 19EA8.

The only control is for volume and power. The crystal has it's fundamental frequency marked on the side and the receiving RF frequency marked on top. This radio, like it's AM band fixed tuned counterpart, was typically used as a promotional item given to advertisers for display at point of sale. The speaker in this version faces upward inside the base, and radiates through slots. The plastic side cover with one of the metal grilles slides out easily for tube replacement. The other grille is AC-grounded to the radio for shielding, and may give a harmless tingle when touched. A 28" (71cm) AC coupled antenna wire was found coiled in the 8" diameter base. Reception is improved by stretching antenna wire outside base.
