  • Notes
  • Celeste Trench portable gramophone in oak case, the interior with detachable cast iron turntable and winding handle, the single front door revealing the sound box.

Circa 1918. Little is known about the antecedents of this unusual design, which appears to have been marketed in Britain as both Celeste or Trench. In both cases, the soundboard bears the Celeste name, and only one example is known to have carried the name on the soundboard.

The original description is from “Fonografi e Grammofoni” by Christopher Proudfoot, and the Italian edition “Silvana Editoriale” was published in 1980.

Grammofono portatile Trench (Celeste), 1918 circa.

Edizione Italiana Silvana Editoriale, 1980.
