  • Almost identical to 1952 CN420 except low current 25mA valves fitted instead of 50mA type, so twice LT pack life.

    Component values differ from the earlier version. Similar chassis layout to most Vidor models of the era.

    Possibly the last Battery Portable to use HT pack with separate cells rather than Layer construction. HT 90V Vidor L5039 (=Ever Ready Portable 61) also used on Pre 1939 sets with 2V Lead Acid Accumulator. LT 1.5V (1.4V nominal) is Vidor L5041  (=Ever Ready AD4).

    There are at least 4 varieties of colour scheme and "cloth" covering. Some versions have four feet (on side that is base when open). The only obvious visual difference between CN420 and CN420A is the valves fitted and the label lists DK91, DF91, DAF91, DL94 or DK96, DF96, DAF96, DL96. Apart from minor component value changes the DK91 and DK96 are not pin compatible.

    The actual set is marked CN420 not CN420A but showing DK96, DF96, DAF96, DK96 valve positions.

    Approximately total weight 4.5 to 5 kg when batteries added. Dimensions include catches, hinges and handle. The larger case than similar Vidor battery only models to accomodate the large HT pack. Possibly over 250 hours run time (HT or LT) compared with 70 hours max on the similar design and identical valves Lady Margaret due to larger batteries. Both are direct drive knob on the tuning capacitor with no reduction gear.
