  • Improved Wallace Valve Detector. The last advertisement for Wallce in October, 1913, mentioned a new "improved" Valve Detector that could be purchased through C. Brandes Inc. who was taking over retail sales for Wallace. The Detector pictured is believed to be the last version of the Wallace Valve Detector produced without the battery switch.    

    In the late summer of 1913 Deforest decided to take legal action against Wallace over the tubes Wallace was purchasing from McCandless. Wallace was having McCandless build tubes for him internally identical to the Deforest spherical Audion in an unbased tubular envelope for use in his Wallace Valve Detector. Wallace lost his case and in November Deforest started advertising his RJ4 Audion Valve Detector which was a direct copy of the Wallace Valve Detector.
