  • The Wharfedale Dovedale Heritage is a significant milestone for the company, as it marks the first Wharfedale speaker manufactured in the UK in 41 years.

    The Dovedale features a 10-inch (250mm) Kevlar cone bass driver and a 5-inch (135mm) Kevlar cone midrange driver. Kevlar, an exceptionally strong and stiff synthetic fibre, was chosen for these drivers due to its unique properties:

    • Rigidity: Kevlar's high stiffness helps maintain the cone's shape during rapid oscillations, reducing distortion and improving sound reproduction accuracy.
    • Lightness: The low mass of Kevlar allows for quicker response and faster vibration stopping, enhancing transient response and overall sound quality.
    • Controlled performance: The Kevlar cones contribute to rich, controlled bass output with superb dynamic performance. The material's properties allow for precise movement, resulting in accurate and detailed reproduction of bass and midrange frequencies.
    • Damping: Both Kevlar drivers are critically damped with acoustic foam and long hair fibre to further optimize their performance.

    The midrange driver is housed in its internal enclosure (8.6 litres in volume) to isolate it from bass vibrations, while the bass driver operates in a larger 64.7-litre chamber. Combined with the Kevlar material, this configuration allows the Dovedale to achieve a bass extension down to 25Hz (-6dB).

    The use of Kevlar in both the bass and midrange drivers helps ensure coherent sound reproduction across the frequency spectrum, allowing for smooth transitions between drivers and a more unified overall sound. This material choice, not available when the original Dovedales were introduced, represents a significant upgrade in driver technology and contributes to the speaker's ability to deliver rich, controlled, and dynamic performance across a wide frequency range.
