  • Bemerkung
  • In the "Z-Nith" catalog "Long Distance Radio Apparatus" of "Chicago Radio Laboratory", Bulletin F-21, there is the name Regenerette for it (price 12.75 $), not to be confused with "Z-Nith Regenerator", also Called "C.R.L Paragon Regenerative Receiver".(Chicago Radio Lab. prior to 1923.)
The Regenerette is a Regeneration accessory for non-regen sets. It has no tube. Suitably hooked up it can provide regeneration, controlled by a built-in variocoupler and a tapped coil.

Currently there is no information yet about the inner life of the Regenerette.

I spent some thoughts how it could add regeneration to a set consisting of a Tuner (e.g. a Loose Coupler)  and a non-regenerative Audion.

The Regenerette has 4 terminals, a 7-step switch and a 90° dial, which excludes a variable condenser. A Variometer would need 180° (max. - neutral/add. - min.).
It is certainly a Variocoupler which always works over 90° (max. - min.).

The 7-step switch seems to set the plate coil taps and hence the maximum reaction signal while the variocoupler permits fine control.

Here is a possible hookup.  The step coil it not tuned, therefore seems to be better in the plate circuit. In the grid circuit it would influence tuning.

There is also the less likely possibility to swop the in- and output function of the Regenerette, i.e. the coupling coil in the plate circuit and the Variocoupler in series to the Audion grid. The latter is used by Grebe for the CR-9, where the tapped coil is in the tuning circuit with a variable Condenser, and the Variocoupler uses only an end part of the coil.

Let's hope that some day in the future a real Regenerette emerges which hopefully can undergo a careful analysis.
