  • The A.J.S. company began producing loudspeakers concurrently with their radio production. A prominent model was the 24-inch tall "Standard Loudspeaker," available with either a metal or wooden horn. The metal horn came in matt black or grained wood finishes, while the wooden horn offered oak or mahogany flares.

The Standard Horn loudspeaker, manufactured by A.J.S. Stevens & Co. Ltd. in Wolverhampton, employed a common design for the era. It utilized a metal diaphragm suspended above two pole pieces affixed to a horseshoe magnet. Coils wound around each pole piece interacted with the magnetic field. When current flowed through the coils, the magnetic field varied, attracting the diaphragm towards the magnet. This movement, driven by the audio signal, caused the diaphragm to vibrate, producing sound waves. The combined DC resistance of the two coils in series typically measured around 2000 Ohms.

    Price in December 1924.
