Pathé, like Edison, produced disc records as well as cylinders, but always cut vertically.
Vertical incision ("hill-and-dale) comported a slight loss of quality with respect to lateral recording, but had the advantage of permitting the use of virtually everlasting sapphire stylus.La Pathé analogamente alla Edison produsse oltre che cilindri, anche dischi ma sempre ad incisione verticale. L'incisione verticale aveva una leggera perdita di qualità rispetto all'incisione laterale, ma aveva il vantaggio di permettere l'impiego di una puntina di zaffiro di durata quasi illimitata.
