Needlephone

The "Needlephone"  is an adapter / intermediate device that increases the volume of a gramaphone funnel.

The device is plugged into the headphone or loudspeaker socket of a receiver.  This excites the magnetic system of the needlephone as a function of audio level, and vibrates the tongue that protrudes from the top of the housing (function of a cantilever speaker). The sound box of the gramophone is then placed on the tongue (with the needle inserted, of course).  The vibration of the needlephone's tongue is then transmitted to the sound box and is audible in the gramophone's funnel.

Bei dem Gerät "Needlephone" des US-Herstellers "Rhamstine" handelt es sich um einen Adapter / Zwischengerät, das dazu gedacht war, den Trichter eines Grammphons zu nutzen, um Lautsprecherempfang zu ermöglichen.

Dazu wurde das Gerät in die Kopfhörer-, bzw. Lautsprecherbuchsen des Empfängers eingesteckt, so daß das inliegende Magnetsystem mit der Sprechspannung der NF-Stufe des Radios erregt wurde. Hierdurch wurde die Zunge in Bewegung gesetzt, die oben aus dem Gehäuse herausragt (Wirkungsweise eines Freischwinger-Lautsprechers).

Auf diese Zunge sollte dann die Schalldose des Grammophons (natürlich mit eingesetzter Nadel) aufgesetzt werden. Die Schwingung der Zunge des "Needlephone" übertrug sich dann auf die Schalldose und wurde im Trichter des Grammophons hörbar.
