  • The Lord Kelvin's (William Thomson) Patents Vertical Electro Static Volt Meter is normally called Electrostatic Voltmeter or in German Elektrostatisches Voltmeter. See this PDF for the history of Voltmeters and see this Gold leaf electroscope (Goldblatt Elektroskop). For the principle of operation see this link to Wikipedia.

The "Kelvin Vertical Electrostatic Voltmeter" was made by the same company, but later very similar by KELVIN, BOTTOMLEY & BAIRD, LTD LATE KELVIN & JAS.WHITE LTD in Glasgow and London. That quite later model was sold by Christies for £ 456 (at that time $ 901) in May 2007.

See also the generic page for instruments without a brand name, the Kelvin-Generator, Ramsden and Influenz machines like the Wimshurst, Wommelsdorf or Bonetti.
