Gramophone Elf

Elf, Pathé, c.1913. The 'mouth' reflector within the lid was used on several Pathé models, but the Elf is the only one which appears to have been on sale in Britain. The reflector of this model is made with a structure that was said to be recycled from old discs; it is painted to harmonize with the oak case. It was also sold by London Saphone under their own name: this was the company responsible for Diamond (records), one of which is visible on this example. They were very similar to Pathé records, but they played from the outside in. They should not be confused with Edison Diamond discs.

Elf, Pathé, 1913 circa. Il riflettore a «bocca» entro il coperchio fu usato su diversi modelli Pathé, ma l'Elf è il solo che sembri essere stato in vendita in Gran Bretagna. Il riflettore di questo modello è realizzato con una struttura che si diceva riciclata da vecchi dischi; è dipinto in modo da armonizzare con la cassa di quercia. Fu venduto anche dalla London Saphone sotto il prorpio nome: si trattava della casa responsabile dei Diamond (dischi) uno dei quali è visibile su questo esemplare. Erano assai simili ai dischi Pathé, ma suonavano dall'esterno verso l'interno. Non vanno confusi con i dischi Edison Diamond.
